Three House Democrats from Connecticut reported they were targeted by bomb threats at their homes on Thanksgiving Day, November 28.
Knewz.com has learned that the threats were made early morning on Thursday, following which local law enforcement authorities responded to the respective homes of the representatives.
Connecticut House Democrats Jahana Hayes, Jim Himes, and John B. Larson all became the targets of the early morning Thanksgiving bomb threat.
However, the police were unable to find any explosives at any of the locations, and the threats were deemed “not credible.”
Rep. Larson shared a statement in the aftermath of the bomb scare, saying:
“Early this morning, East Hartford Police came to my home in response to a bomb threat. The police determined no bomb was present at the property and the Larson family is safe. I would like to thank the East Hartford Police Department for their swift and professional response in ensuring the safety of my family.”
“I am grateful that my colleagues in the Connecticut Congressional Delegation, who received similar threats, are also safe. Thanks again to law enforcement at every level, from local, to state, to federal,” Larson added.
Fellow House Democrat Rep. Hayes also shared a statement regarding the matter, where she said that she was notified about the bomb threat by Chief Edward Stephens of the Wolcott Police Department.
The Wolcott Police Department received a “threatening email” that stated a pipe bomb had been placed in the mailbox of the Connecticut residence of Rep. Hayes.
“State police, U.S. Capitol Police, and the Sergeant at Arms were immediately notified. The Wolcott Police Department and State Police responded and no bomb or explosive materials were discovered and the scene was cleared,” the House representative wrote in her statement.
“At this time the investigation is ongoing. I thank law enforcement for their swift attention to this matter, their actions demonstrate there is no place in our country for political violence.”
“On this Thanksgiving, I am grateful for my family and loved ones. I plan to spend the day with them and hope you all do the same. May you have a safe and happy Thanksgiving,” she further wrote.
The incident has been confirmed by the Wolcott Police Department in a statement to The Hill, where it also said that a joint investigation is currently underway in association with the State Police and the United States Capitol Police.
Rep. Himes wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, regarding the Thanksgiving bomb threats:
“This morning, I was notified of a bomb threat targeting my home where I was celebrating Thanksgiving with my family. Thankfully, after a swift and thorough response from the United States Capitol Police, the Greenwich Police Department, and the Stamford Police Department, no evidence of a bomb was found.”
“Mary, Emma, Linley, and I extend our utmost gratitude to our local law enforcement officers for their immediate action to ensure our safety.”
“There is no place for political violence in this country, and I hope that we may all continue through the holiday season with peace and civility,” he added.
Notably, a Democratic lawmaker from Connecticut, Joe Courtney, and Democratic Senator Chris Murphy both received similar bomb threats on Thanksgiving Day as well.
Senator Murphy’s office released a statement regarding the matter, saying, “On Thanksgiving, Senator Murphy’s home in Hartford was the target of a bomb threat, which appears to be part of a coordinated effort involving multiple members of Congress and public figures.”
“Hartford Police and U.S. Capitol Police quickly responded and determined there was no real threat. The Senator is grateful to Mayor Arulampalam, Interim Police Chief Howell, and the law enforcement officers at Hartford PD and USCP [U.S. Capitol Police] for their swift and thorough response,” the statement added, per reports.
It has been pointed out that the recent wave of bomb threats came days after President-elect Donald Trump’s nominees for serving in the upcoming Presidency became the target of bomb threats earlier in the week.
Those targeted in the threats earlier this week included Republican lawmakers Elise Stefanik from New York and Lori Chavez-DeRemer from Oregon.
