An op-ed published in the New York Post on Thursday compares the treatment of Pete Hegseth as a nominee of President-elect Donald Trump to what happened to Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh when he was nominated to the bench.
“It’s the Brett Kavanaugh show all over again,” Karol Markowicz wrote. “The media has gone into smear-fest mode and won’t stop until they get a scalp.”
“Republicans should not let them take Hegseth’s,” she continued. “The assault story is suspect, and it’s OK to say so.”
Hegseth admitted that he and the unnamed woman accusing him had sex, but said it was consensual and initiated by her after she accused him of assaulting her after they left a bar area while attending a conference.
The woman was married, didn’t return to her hotel room until 4 a.m., and told her husband she fell asleep on someone’s couch.
No charges were ever brought against Hegseth, in part because the woman had falsely accused another man of the same behavior.
