After Donald Trump was elected, California Governor Gavin Newsom called for a special session of the state legislature to “Trump Proof” California.
Now, he is being called out as a complete hypocrite.
His critics are pointing out that while he is resisting the incoming administration, he would try to crush any local cities in California that resisted state policies.
You Hypocrite
Newsom already appears to be making his case to run for president in 2028.
After Trump won the election, Newsom announced, “The freedoms we hold dear in California are under attack — and we won’t sit idle,” adding that he wanted to “Trump-proof” California laws.
State Attorney General Rob Bonta also revealed that his office spent most of the last year reviewing the more than 100 lawsuits it filed against Trump during his first term.
California Republican state Assemblyman Bill Essayli immediately pushed back against Newsom.
He stated, “It’s frankly hypocritical that Newsom wants to say: ‘As a state, we want to exempt ourselves from Trump’s policies,’ but Newsom would never tolerate the same from local jurisdictions exempting themselves from his policies.”
Sarah Anzia, a political scientist and public policy professor at the University of California, Berkeley, also questioned Newsom’s declaring war before Trump even got into office.
She stated, “Is firing up the Trump resistance really the right move given what has just happened?
“I would think this would call for some introspection and consideration of why Trump has grown in popularity in a state like this.”
I cannot help but laugh because my brother and I just had this conversation.
My brother, who is not political at all, asked me one simple question… when are these people going to learn?
Democrats were smacked in the face with the worst election loss they have seen in decades, yet they still want to push their work policies, and worse yet, they have no desire at all to engage and listen to their constituents.
And it is exactly why their party is now on life support.
