A 72-year-old Pensacola man was arrested Thursday morning for stabbing his ex-wife’s new husband.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said that Gregory Grant was charged with attempted homicide, WEAR reported.
The victim, identified as Alan Bingham, told the station that Grant is homeless and has been living at the home he shares with Grant’s ex-wife.
“He was clammed up in his room,” Bingham said after he was released from the hospital. ” … I told him to come out. He got real angry at me and told me to flake off and he didn’t want to hang or associate with me. I said, ‘I’m just trying to help you.’
“He had a knife in his hand, which I didn’t see at the time. I felt it in my side. Then he tried to stab me again, but he cut my thumb trying to defend myself. I had his arms … so I took my right foot and tripped him. And that’s how I got away and called 911. Then he locked himself in the room.”
Police arrived and took Grant into custody. He’s being held without bond pending arraignment.
“I’m just trying to be a nice guy and help a homeless person out — and that’s the appreciation I get,” Bingham said.
No further information was released.
