The General Land Office of Texas recently unveiled the border ranch that was acquired to be used as the site of the proposed detention facility to aid Donald Trump‘s promised “mass deportation” operation.
Knewz.com has learned that the Texas Land Commissioner is in the process of identifying additional land to aid the upcoming federal mass deportation efforts.
On Tuesday, November 26, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham unveiled the Starr County ranch, located on the outskirts of Rio Grande City about 40 miles west of the border city of McAllen.
Buckingham’s agency bought the 1,402-acre border ranch in October for $3.82 million, according to purchase documents reviewed by reports.
Notably, the state of Texas has been erecting a wall along the southern border—a portion of which passes through the ranch.
The previous owner of the ranch, Andrea Kate Sheerin, had opposed the construction of the border wall on the property. While unveiling the proposed site of the deportation detention facility on Tuesday, Buckingham criticized Sheering for “blocking” the border wall project on her ranch.
The Texas Land Commissioner alleged that Sheerin’s decision “contributed to drug trafficking and illegal crossings into Texas,” according to reports.
Buckingham told the media that the 1.5-mile section of the border wall that passes through the ranch is expected to be completed by the upcoming week.
The border wall is being constructed as part of Texas Governor Greg Abbott‘s immigration crackdown program, Operation Lone Star.
The border mission launched by the Texas governor saw the deployment of thousands of police and soldiers and miles of barriers along the southern border.
The fact that the Texas ranch will be used as a deportation detention facility was confirmed by Trump’s “border czar” nomination Tom Homan, although he has yet to specify whether the facility will be permanent, or a temporary arrangement using tents.
Speaking on Fox and Friends on November 26, Homan said that he and Governor Abbott have already begun planning for the mass deportation operation, instead of waiting for January 2025, when Trump will formally be sworn into Office.
It is worth noting that Homan previously served as the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement during the first term of the Trump Presidency, and was the “architect of the first Trump White House‘s ‘zero tolerance’ policy toward immigration,” per reports.
Trump’s border czar said in a recent statement, “Let me be clear: There is going to be a mass deportation because we just finished a mass illegal immigration crisis on the border.”
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Homan said that he vowed to “help Abbott finish the job he started,” seemingly referring to Operation Lone Star.
It is worth noting that while Governor Abbott has hailed the border mission as a huge success, his testimony from earlier in 2024 says otherwise.
Testifying before a Republican-led Texas Senate panel, the Texas governor stated that morale was low among the troops deployed at the border, in addition to reporting “humanitarian concerns and ballooning costs.”
Notably, the Joe Biden administration’s Department of Justice and the American Civil Liberties Union had sued the state of Texas on the grounds that “the law interferes with the federal government’s authority over immigration,” reports have mentioned.
On the other hand, Abbott and Hamon portrayed the border situation under the Biden administration as an “unprecedented threat” during their statements on November 26.
Currently, the General Land Office of Texas, Land Commissioner Buckingham’s agency, stated that it is looking to identify, but not yet acquire, additional land in Texas to aid the upcoming Trump administration’s anti-immigration efforts.
“If the Trump administration thinks it’ll be helpful, we want to be good partners with them,” Buckingham said in a statement.
According to reports, her agency currently has more than 13 million acres of land under its jurisdiction.
