President-elect Donald Trump is considering Kash Patel for a top position at either the FBI or Department of Justice, according to transition team sources.
This significant development could reshape federal law enforcement.
Patel, who previously served on Trump’s National Security Council and as chief of staff to acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller, has emerged as a leading candidate for deputy FBI director or a senior investigative role within the DOJ.
Axios reported that sources close to the transition team indicate that Patel’s potential appointment would resonate strongly with Trump’s base while signaling a major overhaul of justice and law enforcement agencies.
“Kash has a lot of allies who think placing him in a top role would be well-received by the Trump base, and send a clear message that Trump is serious about major reform,” a source told Axios.
Patel’s career trajectory includes significant achievements in national security and law enforcement, The Post Millennial (TPM) outlined.
During his tenure at the Department of Defense, he played a crucial role in operations targeting ISIS and Al-Qa’ida leadership, including the elimination of al-Baghdadi and Qasem al-Rimi.
His involvement in securing the safe return of American hostages further solidified his national security credentials.
TPM highlighted that before his ascent to federal positions, Patel worked as a public defender, handling complex cases ranging from murder to financial crimes in both state and federal courts.
While some Republicans have advocated for Patel to assume the FBI director position in Trump’s second administration, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is also under consideration for the top FBI role.
The final decision remains pending at the time of this writing.
Recent speculation about former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) as a potential FBI director candidate was quickly dismissed by senior Trump campaign adviser Dan Scavino.
“Just spoke to President Trump regarding Mike Rogers going to the FBI. It’s not happening — in his own words, ‘I have never even given it a thought,’” Scavino stated on X.
Trump’s campaign apparatus continues to move swiftly in assembling the incoming administration.
TPM noted that campaign spokesman Karoline Leavitt emphasized the efficiency of the transition process, stating, “President-elect Trump has made brilliant decisions on who will serve in his second administration at lightning pace.”
“Remaining decisions will continue to be announced by him when they are made.”
