An investigation is underway in New York after a newborn baby was reportedly found dead outside an apartment on Wednesday.
The baby girl, which had its umbilical cord attached, was discovered in the rear courtyard of a Bronx apartment building. The building’s superintendent told News12 that a contractor spotted the body in an area that is hard to access, while residents said the newborn was located near the trash.
“I was like crazy because they say the baby was there for almost three or four days and the baby was next to my living room,” the superintendent told WABC.
Police sources told the news outlet that the baby’s mother was possibly a teen who was hiding her pregnancy and had given birth at the building before dumping the body.
No arrests have been made. The baby’s cause of death is pending.
