CV NEWS FEED // As the Solemnity of All Saints approaches, the Augustine Institute is highlighting in a press release its new documentary series that “seeks to tell the amazingly human stories of modern saints in a way that stirs us all to holiness.”
According to the Institute’s recent press release, the first episode is about Blessed Fr. Solanus Casey, OFM Cap. The episode features interviews with those who personally knew him, including his grandniece, an Irish immigrant, and a Capuchin friar who lived with Fr. Casey at their monastery.
“Our research and filming unveiled countless stories of Fr. Solanus’ deep love and friendship with God and unwavering service to others,” said producer Emily Mentock in the press release. “He offers valuable lessons for our modern world.”
Mentock is also the co-founder of Digital Continent, which partnered with the Augustine Institute to produce the series, called “Based on a True Saint.” The second episode, which will be about Blessed Carlo Acutis, will be released in 2025.
Mentock said of the series’ first 30-minute episode about the life of Fr. Casey, “We want everyone to experience Fr. Solanus’ gentle holiness and consider how they, too, can live a holy life in their daily interactions.”
The press release states that Fr. Casey had hobbies of playing the violin and singing. The episode highlights how he exemplified virtues such as gratitude, simplicity, humility, and care for others, according to the press release.
“He teaches us that sainthood is accessible to everyone,” Mentock said, “Sainthood is not reserved for the few but a call for all, and this is ultimately the overarching goal of the documentary series.”
