Israel is continuing to score major wins against Hezbollah, its mortal foe. In recent weeks, not only has Israel managed to continue to kill key arch-terrorists, but the Jewish state and the Israeli press are also shedding light on the diabolical nature of Hezbollah, particularly the extent the organization is embedded in the civilian population. Key wins include:
IDF Kills Hezbollah Chief, Head of Intelligence, Head Financer, and Anti-Tank Commander
The IDF was finally able to confirm that it killed both Hezbollah arch-terrorists Hashem Safieddine and Ali Hussein Hazima in an October 4 airstrike in Beirut. Safieddine was the successor to Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, and had previously filled in as chief when Nasrallah left Lebanon. As a member of Hezbollah’s Shura Council, Safieddine made political and military decisions for the organization, and had orchestrated terror attacks against Israel. The US had designated Safieddine as a terrorist in 2017.
Ali Hussein Hazima was the Commander of Hezbollah’s Intelligence Headquarters, and orchestrated terror attacks against Israel.
The IDF also confirmed that it killed the head financer of Hezbollah in Syria. This man, who the IDF did not name, was the leader of Hezbollah’s Unit 4400 that had sent money to the group via Iran’s oil sales.
And the IDF announced that it killed Araeb el Shoga. He served as a commander in Hezbollah Radwan Forces’ Anti-tank Missile Unit. El Shoga had orchestrated multiple attacks on Israeli tanks in northern Israel.
IDF Destroys Hezbollah Naval Base
The IDF announced that it destroyed a Hezbollah naval base which included “military speedboats, a training center and an area to conduct experiments.”
IDF Calls Out Hezbollah’s $500 Million Stashed UnderHospital, Attacks its Financial Firm
The IDF found that not only is Hezbollah’s “central financial facility” housed in a bunker below Al Sahel Hospital in Beirut, but that the terror group is using it to hoard $500 million in gold and cash. Hezbollah is currently refusing Lebanese press to enter the hospital through an entrance the IDF believes will lead them to the bunker. Hezbollah’s flagrant use of a hospital as a human shield for its operations is reminiscent of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza that was used by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Additionally, the IDF has stated that it has hit over two dozen targets that belong to a financial firm (Al-Qard Al-Hassan) with ties to Hezbollah. The US Department of Treasury put Al-Qard Al-Hassan on the Specialty Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons list in 2007.
Israel Shows Hezbollah Embeds Itself within Green Without Borders NGO
Israel disclosed to the United Nations that the NGO Green Without Borders (GWB) is merely a front for Hezbollah. According to Israeli testimony at the UN, GWB does not monitor environmental issues as it states it does, but serves to monitor Israeli territory and protect Hezbollah. According to one IDF spokesman, Hezbollah used GWB facilities to store weapons, dig tunnels, and build observation posts near the border with Israel. And the US Treasury Department recognized as much in August 2023, when it sanctioned the group and its founder for supporting Hezbollah.
IDF Exposes UNIFIL Allowed Hezbollah to Use UN Positions, Cameras
Captured Hezbollah terrorists revealed that the terror group paidUNIFL troops to use UNIFIL positions for the terror group’sown purposes, and also commandeered UNIFIL cameras posted near the border. Supplementing this claim, the IDF released a graphic of locations where Hezbollah has launched missiles at Israel from areas within 300 meters of UNIFIL posts.
Israeli Press Reveals UNIFIL Refused to Engage Hezbollah
Additionally, Israeli press revealed details on how, according to a former UN soldier, Hezbollah managed to prevent UN troops from enforcing UN Resolution 1701, which gave UNIFIL the authority to stop Hezbollah terrorist activity in southern Lebanon. According to this soldier, UNIFIL forces were “totally subject to Hezbollah,” and were intimidated by Hezbollah, allowing the terror group to roam free at night. Additionally, Hezbollah would limit access of UN troops to certain cities in southern Lebanon, and blocked roads from them. UN troops would also allow suspicious “civilians” to photograph the Israeli border. The former soldier also reported that Hezbollah would confiscate anything he used to try to document the terror group’s presence, and that UNIFIL did not act on any intelligence on Hezbollah that was reported. He also stated that UNIFIL was not allowed to inspect civilian houses or a “chicken farm” that was close to the border with Israel. Additionally, the former soldier claimed that some UNIFIL soldiers were even sympathetic to Hezbollah.
By continuing to slay Hezbollah arch-terrorists, and to shine a light on Hezbollah’s war crimes, Israel is seeking to further degrade the ability for Hezbollah to both wage attacks on the Jewish state and to garner sympathy abroad. The Biden-Harris administration should encourage and facilitate Israel to defeat Hezbollah.
