The Guardian, which obtained an advance copy of the book titled “Melania,” set to release on Tuesday, reports that the former first lady’s views on abortion rights starkly contrast with those of her husband and the Republican Party at large.
“It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government,” Melania writes in her book.
She goes on to assert, “Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body?”
The timing of this revelation could not be more critical, coming just one month before Donald Trump faces off against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in the presidential election.
Abortion rights are expected to be a pivotal issue for voters, with Harris positioning herself as the “pro-choice” candidate.
Melania’s stance on abortion appears to be long standing.
“I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life,” she states in the memoir.

“We are all entitled to maintain a gratifying and dignified existence. This common-sense approach applies to a woman’s natural right to make decisions about her own body and health.”
