NORMAL, IL – Homecoming weekend at Illinois State University took a tragic turn when a shooting near the college campus left one person dead and another critically injured. Normal Police officers were called to the scene of the incident in the early hours of Sunday morning.
At 3:42 a.m., officers were assigned to break up a large party in the 300 block of North Main Street when they heard several gunshots. They promptly responded, moving to the 300 block of North University Street, where they discovered two gunshot victims. First aid was provided to both victims until personnel from the Normal Fire Department arrived.
Following their transfer to local hospitals, one of the victims subsequently died. The second victim remains in critical condition.
Police have not revealed further details about the victims, including their ages or genders. However, the police chief clarified to the public that they do not believe the victims of the shooting were students at the university.
An investigation is currently underway in the secured crime scene, with officers gathering evidence in connection with the shooting. Police have asked for anyone who may have information related to this case to contact them.
