Tracey Collins, Mayor Adams’ girlfriend, joined Hizzoner on $45,000 worth of luxurious trips while missing nearly a year of work at her Department of Education job in New York City.
Collins, a former NYC Department of Education teacher, was promoted to the agency’s “senior advisor” when Eric Adams took office. Now 61, Collins is living the high life, according to court prosecutors, who say she joined Adams on trips to India, Hungary, Turkey, Jordan, Oman and Ghana starting in 2016.
The New York Post reports that Adams is being accused of accepting travel perks as high as $123,000, as stated in the 57-page federal indictment released this week.
After Adams took office, David Banks, who was named school chancellor, promoted Collins to her current roll of senior advisor who received a 23% pay raise to $221,597 a year.
Many employees filed complaints about Collins, questioning if she even reported the travel perks as required by law. DOE ethics officer, Samantha Biletsky, Conficts of Interest Board, the Special Commissioner of Investigation, and the city Department of Investigation, are also questioning if she reported the money she spent on traveling.
Collins has seldom appeared at her office since Nov. 2023 and her work calendar has been blank, a former DOE employee alleged.
An ex-employee states, “It is my understanding that DOE employees are only permitted to work from home two days a week,” in an email to the DOE ethics officer, Biletsky.
Collins has also allegedly “accepting gifts in excess of 100K from a foreign government and not declaring said gifts on her Conflicts of Interest disclosure,” the ex-employee also stated.
Attendance and time records will be examined to “verify that she put in for vacation while she took all of those illegal trips,” states the complaint.
Adams and Collins did travel to Budapest and Istanbul back in January 2018, according to the recently unsealed federal indictment against Mayor Adams.
Recently, Collins bought two economy-class tickets from Turkish Airlines at $560 each, yet they were upgraded free of charge to business class worth more than $14,000, according to the documents. This was done by the request of an Adams staffer.
Also, in January 2019, Collins also bought an economy ticket for herself to visit Turkey, Jordan, and Oman. This ticket was also upgraded to a tune of $7000 by a request. Adam’s upgrade was done separately since his ticket was bought through a Turkish entrepreneur and one who later became a senior staffer in his administration.
All of this was omitted from Adam’s 2018 Conflict of Interest Board disclosure form. Any city official and any high-level employee must disclose any potential conflicts of interest to the COIB as required by law under the NYC Charter.
An SCI spokesperson told the New York Post, “We are currently reviewing and evaluating the allegations.”
The city Conflicts of Interest Board is “prohibited from commenting on the past conduct of a public servant until there is a final finding of a violation,” said COIB executive director Carolyn Lisa Miller.
Eric Adams, who once stated that he was the future of the Democrat Party, finds himself even deeper in legal and political peril.
