The threats against Donald Trump are growing by the day.
Foreign and domestic actors are trying to take him down.
And Matt Gaetz revealed one scary group that is trying to get Donald Trump.
Ukrainians are one of the groups after Donald Trump
Former President Donald Trump has faced two assassination attempts in as many months.
But the threats against his life are greater than the public realizes.
Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) told the Human Events podcast that a senior official told him that there were five assassination teams actively trying to kill Trump before he was shot at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13.
Two of those teams were domestic and three were inspired by foreign governments.
Gaetz appeared on The Benny Show podcast where he revealed some more information about the plots against Trump.
“I don’t want you to think there are only five, there are five teams that were known by our government to have been hunting Trump pre-Butler,” Gaetz said. “That may be a very different number today. That number could have increased or shrunk.”
He speculated that one or more of the teams could be neutralized at this point.
“But to hear that one of them is Ukrainian, and then you see this guy [Ryan Routh] show up,” Gaetz stated.
Ryan Routh, a 58-year-old, was arrested for the second assassination attempt against Trump at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Routh had traveled to Ukraine and claimed to be involved in recruiting foreign fighters for the country’s war against Russia.
At one point he was trying to recruit soldiers that fled Afghanistan after the Taliban regained power to join Ukraine’s army.
Routh talked to outlets like the Semafor, Newsweek, and the New York Times about his work in Ukraine before he tried to assassinate Trump.
The strange background of Trump’s latest would-be assassin
“And by the way, he was on the radar of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) because when he entered the country,” Gaetz explained. “Customs and Border Patrol had the wherewithal to say this guy doesn’t make sense, he has been all over the world and now he says he is ‘recruiting freedom fighters.’”
Gaetz thought that there was something suspicious going on with Routh.
“And when we ask a reasonable question about who is funding these efforts to recruit people from Taiwan and Afghanistan to go fight in Ukraine — who’s funding that?” Gaetz asked. “And the answer is, ‘My wife is paying for it.’ That story didn’t exactly check out.”
Routh reportedly had a GoFundMe page set up for his international travels.
“So, when that goes to HSI, no activity, no action, no review. And now it emerges that one of the teams we knew about, hunting Trump, had a Ukraine connection!” Gaetz exclaimed.
Ukraine tried to distance itself from Routh after he attempted to assassinate Trump.
Former Homeland Security official John Cohen told Politico that Routh should have been flagged by HSI.
“He probably should have been subject, based on his behavior, to some type of threat assessment,” Cohen said.
Ryan Routh’s connections to Ukraine are strong enough to raise the eyebrow of Matt Gaetz.
