A Florida man has been arrested months after police found the body of two people in a Maryland apartment.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, the four children of 33-year-old Crimea Baker, all under the age of 13, were home at the time of the shooting and hid for hours, according to Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins.
The children called police at about 7 a.m., he said, to the 7000 block of Mandalong Ct. in New Market on August 25.
Authorities said Baker shared one of the children with 34-year-old Sean Lange, the other victim in the double murder. None of the children were physically harmed, and they are now being tended to by social services.
FOX 5 reports that police identified 33-year-old David Phillip Turner as the alleged killer. Turner had been in a prior relationship with Baker and fathered the children in the home during the murders, police said.
Baker and Lange were reportedly in a relationship and lived together with the children. Deputies said Lange was the father of one child. Baker, originally from Chicago, was the mother of all four children.
According to police, Turner allegedly drove from Florida to Maryland, forced his way into his Baker’s home, and killed Baker and Lange around 1:25 a.m. on August 25. Police said the victims were found dead in an upstairs bedroom.
Jenkins said the suspect fired over 40 rounds, describing the murders as “shocking to the conscience.”
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said the children told them they hid in a closet after hearing gunfire. One child emerged when the gunshots stopped and called for help.
“We are committed to seeing this through, that there is justice for Crimea. She in no way, and Sean for that matter, deserved what happened. The kids didn’t deserve this. Our family is continuing to fight for everything,” Crimea’s cousin Briana Crozier told FOX 5.
“We want him to serve as much time as possible for doing this because it’s totally unnecessary. This never needed to happen. We hope he gets the most that is possible.”
Crozier said the children are safe and the family is addressing custody issues. Their priority is supporting the children as they adjust to life without their mother.
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to help the family with the children’s expenses.
Turner remains behind bars on first-degree murder, home invasion and use of a firearm in a crime of violence or felony (two counts). He’s currently at the Broward County Sheriff’s Office Jail in Florida until extradition to Maryland.
