President Donald Trump’s recent rally in Tucson, Arizona, has become the center of a bizarre health scare.
On September 12, several attendees seated behind Trump reported experiencing mysterious eye issues, sparking widespread speculation and concern.
A local news outlet reported that the incident, which affected a “handful” of individuals, many from the “Latinos For Trump” group, left some in “unbearable pain,” with at least one person seeking medical attention.
Rumors quickly spread, fueled by claims that a nurse had asked if the affected individual had been exposed to chemicals.
Official sources paint a different picture, though.
The Western Journal reported that both the Tucson Police Department and Tucson Fire Department stated they received no complaints about eye injuries or facial burning as described in some media reports.
The fire department, however, did report responding to over 40 heat-related calls, resulting in at least 10 hospitalizations.
As speculation ran rampant on social media, three medical experts weighed in on the mysterious ailments.
Speaking to the the Daily Mail, two doctors proposed that the culprit might be the venue’s air conditioning system.
They suggested it could have been “either blowing too strongly and drying out attendees’ eyes or blowing a fine dust into their eyes that caused irritation and damage.”
A third expert offered an alternative explanation, pointing to a potential faulty stage light.
This theory suggests that strong UV light blasting onto attendees throughout the one-hour and 18-minute rally could have caused the reported illnesses.
Tucson city officials seemed to lean towards the lighting theory, stating that “attendees that were seated on the stage were looking directly into lighting per reports,” according to one local news outlet.
The Secret Service has maintained that there was no known threat to Trump at the rally, the Journal highlighted.
The Trump campaign, while not directly addressing the incident, released a statement saying, “The Trump campaign has been collecting information. We remain committed to the countless patriots that attend our high-energy, high-impact rallies across the country.”
Medical experts have cast doubt on the possibility of a chemical attack, noting that the delayed onset of symptoms is inconsistent with exposure to substances like pepper spray.
Such agents typically cause immediate reactions, they explained.
The incident has garnered heightened attention due to two recent assassination attempts against Trump, including a tragic event in Butler, Pennsylvania, that resulted in a fatality.
After nearly two weeks of investigation, no evidence has emerged to support claims of deliberate sabotage or a third plot against the former president and his supporters.
As the mystery continues to unfold, rally attendees and Trump supporters alike are left wondering about the true nature of these unexpected health issues.
Was it merely an unfortunate combination of environmental factors, or something more sinister?
While questions remain, one thing is clear: the incident has added yet another layer of intrigue to the already charged atmosphere surrounding Trump’s public appearances.
As investigations continue, supporters and critics alike will be watching closely for any developments in this puzzling case.
