A man with a troubling history of bizarre behavior has been arrested again in Arizona after being caught hiding under women’s vehicles at a car wash, allegedly to stare at their feet. Jesse Michael Johnson, 28, is now facing charges of voyeurism and disorderly conduct, according to a report from KSAZ, a Phoenix Fox affiliate.
The unsettling incidents took place at a Super Star Car Wash in Gilbert, Arizona, where Johnson targeted multiple women as they were vacuuming their SUVs. According to police, Johnson pulled into a parking spot next to the victims, then slipped under their vehicles while they were distracted.
“In these three incidents, defendant pulled into a parking spot next to the victim,” police detailed in their report. “While each victim was vacuuming her vehicle, defendant hid under her SUV and spent several minutes under her vehicle. The defendant climbed out from under the vehicle when each victim was finishing her vacuuming and left the area.”
Surveillance footage captured the creepy act, showing Johnson sneaking underneath the women’s cars and then casually returning to his own vehicle, pretending to clean his tires. He was arrested after police identified him from the footage, and he is currently being held on a $10,000 bond.
One of the victims, Chanelle, recounted her disturbing experience in an interview with AZ Family. “At one point, you can see his head pop out on the driver’s side, looking up at me,” she said, still shaken by the encounter. “I just never would have thought in a million years that there would be someone underneath my car.”
Chanelle, like the other women, was wearing flip flops and shorts at the time of the incident, a detail she noted as something the victims had in common. She also revealed that the encounter has left her with nightmares. “Going into the community and doing this to women is absolutely disgusting, and I don’t think he realizes what it’s doing to us as the victims,” she said.
Shockingly, this isn’t Johnson’s first run-in with the law for similar behavior. Back in 2016, authorities in Nebraska cited him multiple times for hiding under women’s cars to touch their feet. In one case, Johnson admitted to being “sexually attracted to women’s feet” and claimed he was unable to “control his sexual desires.” That incident marked the fourth time he had been cited for the same offense that year.
Johnson’s latest arrest has stirred concern in the Gilbert community, and his preliminary hearing is set for October 3. With a pattern of unsettling behavior that spans years, this case has raised questions about how best to address his actions and protect the public from future incidents.
As bizarre and disturbing as it may sound, this case serves as a reminder that even the most unusual crimes can have a serious impact on their victims, leaving lasting emotional scars.
