A 29-year-old California woman has been arrested after a newborn baby was found dead in a Lodi parking lot last week.
Kathryn Grace Copeland has been charged with concealing or attempting to conceal an accidental death, Lodi Police said.
Employees of Commissary Azteca found the baby wile eating lunch on Thursday, as CrimeOnline reported. The baby was spotted between two parked cars, an employee said, adding that he alerted other coworkers and called 911.
The baby was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not say how old the infant was, but witnesses said they believed it was only hours old.
Police did not say what led them to identify Copeland as the suspect. They did not say she was the baby ‘s mother, identifying her only “as the one who abandoned the deceased newborn.”
No further information was released. According to jail records, Copeland is being held on a $5,000 bond and is due in court on Tuesday.
