The love for the world traces back to the Garden of Eden and persists even today. In Genesis 3:6, it is written, “When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.” What led them to believe that the fruit was beneficial or could grant wisdom? God had explicitly warned them against it, stating that eating the fruit would lead to death (Gen. 2:17). Yet, Eve chose to trust the serpent’s deception, and Adam followed her lead.
Satan continues to spread his falsehoods, but you can resist them by nurturing your love for God and recognizing that the world stands in opposition to His principles. It is spiritually lifeless, lacking the Spirit (John 14:17), morally corrupt, and driven by pride, greed, and sinful desires. The world fosters misguided beliefs, selfish ambitions, sinful pleasures, harmful influences, corrupt governance, hollow accolades, and unreliable love.
You cannot simultaneously love the world and God, as true love allows for no competition. It prioritizes its object above all else. If you truly love God, He will occupy the foremost position in your life. Conversely, if your heart is set on the world, the love of the Father cannot dwell within you (1 John 2:15).
Galatians 1:3-5 reminds us that Jesus “gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us out of this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forevermore.” Christ’s sacrifice was meant to free us from the clutches of Satan’s wicked system. What greater incentive could there be to turn away from the world and live for God’s glory?
