Vice President Kamala Harris sat down for a friendly chat this week with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle, a so-called journalist who openly supports her campaign and has defended her refusal to answer questions about her policy views.
The interview was a perfect match, as Harris didn’t really answer the (softball) questions, and Ruhle didn’t seem to mind. “One could watch that and say, ‘Well, she didn’t give a clear, direct answer,'” Ruhle said afterward. “That’s okay, because we are not talking about clear or direct issues.” Even the liberal New York Times panned the “fairly basic and predictable questions” to which Harris gave “roundabout responses that did not provide a substantive answer.”
Consider the following response Harris gave to Ruhle’s question about how the federal government could increase the supply of housing in the United States:
A formidable word salad, that. Harris delivered it with the giddy confidence of someone who recently heard the word “holistically” on her favorite podcast and decided to look it up on Dictionary.com. Hours earlier, the VP gave an economic speech in Pittsburgh where she urged Americans to inspire themselves to be inspired.
“I believe the source of our success is the ingenuity, the dynamism, and enterprising spirit of the American people,” Harris said. “Let it always inspire us. Let it always be the source of our optimism, which is that spirit that is so uniquely American. And let that then inspire us by helping us to be inspired to solve the problems that so many face.”
