Vice President Kamala Harris and her 2024 campaign could be in for an “October surprise” that could end her run.
This is according to the Daily Caller’s Mary Rooke.
“Vice President Kamala Harris is facing a crisis that could end her White House chances,” Rooke writes.
To understand why, some background is necessary.
Here is what is going on:
Harris has been trying to make it appear as though is is the blue-collar candidate. The only problem is that this contradicts her record.
As proof, Harris failed to get some key endorsements that Democrats usually get. For example, Teamsters, one of the largest labor unions in the country, recently decided that it would not endorse her. (On a side note, union leaders also decided not to endorse Trump, even though internal polling shows that the union’s workers overwhelmingly support him.)
As Rooke points out, this is a serious problem for the Democratic candidate, and, unfortunately for Harris, the problem is not getting any better.
Now, Harris – technically the Biden-Harris administration – is facing a massive dockworkers strike.
NPR reports:
Some 25,000 dockworkers at East Coast and Gulf Coast ports, from Boston to Houston, could strike as early as October 1. Their union, the International Longshoremen’s Association, has been in contract talks with the United States Maritime Alliance, representing ocean carriers and port operators, for months. But the two sides have not met face-to-face since June.
This could prove fatal for Harris
Rooke explains why this strike could be such a big deal and why it could have a massive impact on the 2024 presidential election, which is now just a little over a month away.
Rooke writes:
The average American is already suffering under the weight of the Biden-Harris economy. This strike would raise the price of energy, food and shipping by 40-60 percent, according to the Cleveland Federal Reserve.
Rooke goes on to explain why there is no way out of this situation for Harris.
She writes:
The looming strike puts Harris as a prominent opponent in a fight she can’t win. If her administration steps in and forces ILA to take a deal its workers do not want, it may stave off an economic crisis, but it will hurt her ability to win over a massive voting bloc (blue-collar workers) in swing states like Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia, where several major U.S. ports are located. Still, if they don’t intervene, the American family will see their buying power decrease significantly again, pulling more votes away from her campaign.
Time will tell whether Rooke is right about this one.
