A famous Harry Potter actress and longtime screen legend has died.
Maggie Smith, who played Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter movie series has passed away.
Smith was 89-years-old at the time of her passing.
The cause of Smith’s death has not been confirmed at this time.
Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens, the sons of Smith, reported her death in a statement.
“It is with great sadness we have to announce the death of Dame Maggie Smith. She passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday 27th September. An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother,” the statement read.
While the cause of her death has not been revealed, we do know Smith battled both breast cancer and Graves’ disease during her lifetime.
Smith’s loved ones should be so incredibly proud of the life she led during her time on this planet.
She was not only an incredible actress but an incredible human being who left a lasting impression on countless individuals.
Daniel Radcliffe, the actor who played Harry Potter in the series of the same name, has released a statement since learning the news of Smith’s death that may leave you in tears.
“She was a fierce intellect, a gloriously sharp tongue, could intimidate and charm in the same instant and was, as everyone will tell you, extremely funny,” Radcliffe wrote.
“I will always consider myself amazingly lucky to have been able to work with her and to spend time around her on set. The word legend is overused but if it applies to anyone in our industry then it applies to her. Thank you Maggie,” he continued.
We pray for anyone grieving the loss of the amazing Maggie Smith during this difficult time.
