We all knew this was coming.
After Judge Merchan ruled to slap Trump with a gag order in the hush-money trial, Trump continued to taunt the judge on Truth Social.
Merchan just announced his ruling in Bragg’s requested review of the gag order, and it was not good news for Trump.
Pay the Fine
Merchan ruled that Trump violated the gag order nine times so far, hitting him with $1,000 fine for each violation.
However, Merchan also noted that if this behavior continues, he will not hesitate to jail the former president.
Trump immediately posted on Truth Social, “This Judge has taken away my Constitutional Right to FREE SPEECH. I am the only Presidential Candidate in History to be GAGGED.
“This whole ‘Trial’ is RIGGED, and by taking away my FREEDOM OF SPEECH, THIS HIGHLY CONFLICTED JUDGE IS RIGGING THE PRESIDENTIAL OF 2024 ELECTION. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!!!”
Trump’s base is going to eat this up, as have members of Congress who are standing firmly behind Trump.
For instance, Rep. Stefanik (R-N.Y.), considered to be a frontrunner for Trump’s VP, just filed an ethics complaint against Special Counsel Jack Smith for election interference.
Trump just needs to keep his head down before he winds up behind bars.
He is not going to get a fair trial here, but that does not mean that he cannot win this case on appeal, which many legal experts believe will be the case.
Trump eats up these headlines, however, which allows him to play the victim, which he has done masterfully in terms of fundraising.
As a matter of fact, the ink was not even dry on Merchan’s violation order when Trump had sent out an email asking his supporters for money for how unfairly he was being treated.
The more Dems hit Trump, the more he plays the victim, and the more money that gets put into his campaign coffers.
