Donald Trump stirred up a hornet’s nest when he started talking about migrants eating family pets in Springfield, OH.
While that has not been proven, there is no question the city of Springfield is overwhelmed with migrants right now.
So much so, that several Ohio lawmakers are now requesting emergency funds to deal with the crisis.
Punch, Counterpunch
This move was actually a bit predictable on the part of Republicans.
Now, I don’t want to undermine the actual crisis because that city is about to pop at the seams right now because of how many migrants it has taken in.
However, I am questioning the timing of the move, especially since the request was made by a group of Republican lawmakers, with no Democrats involved at all.
Six House Republicans sent a letter requesting emergency financial assistance to the Department of Justice, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Education.
The lawmakers stated, “The mass migration of Haitian nationals to Springfield is the direct result of the Biden-Harris Administration’s reckless and misguided promulgation of immigration policies like the Haitian Parole Program and the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian migrants.
“Programs like TPS allow Haitian nationals to remain in the country indefinitely.”
The letter continued, stating, “It is the Biden-Harris Administration’s responsibility to provide assistance to the City of Springfield, its schools, healthcare centers, law enforcement, and social services agencies as they navigate this immigration crisis.”
The request was signed by Reps. Mike Turner, Michael Rulli, Mike Carey, Brad Wenstrup, Robert Latta, and Warren Davidson.
Again, I don’t want to downplay this, but I am going to call out these congressmen for not having acted sooner rather than what appears to be a political stunt to have Trump’s back.
This is a small town of about 60,000 people that has close to a 30% increase in population over the last few years from Haitian migrants.
This problem did not pop up overnight, so where was their concern before Trump made his comments?
Perhaps if they were doing their jobs, this situation could have been in the national spotlight month or even years ago.
And yet again, the American taxpayer is now expected to foot the bill… be better congressmen, and do your jobs!
And to be clear, I think the lawmakers are right here, but I think they just waited too long for this to be of any impact and viewed as anything other than a political stunt by the media and Democrats.
