It’s the fall season, and there are three things to look forward to: football, day drinking, and making sure we re-elect Donald Trump as President. Our dude Jeremy Hambly (aka The Quartering) combined the three into a unique idea: Tailgates for Trump. To help get your party started, I’m sharing my Mesquitewood Mac recipe.
And look, I hate those long stories before recipes on the Internet too, but I want to make sure Jeremy gets his flowers. His initiative truly is brilliant. We’re the fun party. We’re going to be tailgating anyway, whether it be college, professional, little league tournaments, taking the kids trick or treating, etc. Why not do that AND make sure Democrats can’t screw up the country any more than they have over the last three-plus years? Turn your passion and enthusiasm for a fair future into REAL CHANGE!
The website has all the necessary information, from talking points to important dates you need to know to get out the vote. It also includes party ideas and recipes. All the recipes are politically puntastic, and while Mesqitewood Mac is a pun in its own right, the only tie to the elect is that silly cat lady photo Stevie Nicks posted. Don’t hold it against the recipe because it’s one I’m proud of.

Recipe
- 16 ounces of Campanelle Pasta
- 1 stick of butter, divided
- ¼ cup of flower
- 3 cups of milk
- ½ Parmesan cheese
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 1 tsp of your favorite BBQ seasoning
- 1 cups cheddar
- 1 cup Mozzarella
- 1 cup smoked Gouda
- 1 cup Gruyere
- 1 cup dealer’s choice cheese
- 1 pound BBQ leftovers
- 1 sleeve of Ritz crackers
- 2 beers
Instructions
1. Set your smoker using Mesquite wood for 225.
2. Make the pasta per box directions, minus a minute or two.
3. ON the stove, make the roux using the flour and a half a stick of butter.
4. Slowly whisk the milk.
5. Add the parmesan, cream cheese, and seasoning. Stir until melted.
6. Add all the other cheeses.
7. Add the leftovers.
8. Add the cooked pasta.
9. Pour the gooey concoction into an aluminum tray.
10. Melt the other half a stick of butter and mix with the crumbled-up sleeve of Ritz crackers. Sprinkle on top of the mac.
11. Put it on the smoker uncovered.
12. Drink the two beers while you are standing by the smoker enjoying the smell.
An hour or so later, when it’s golden and bubbling, your Mesquite Wood Mac is complete.
Notes
Obviously you can use elbow macaroni, Campanelle is just my favorite. Don’t be afraid to switch your pastas up.
Dealers choice cheese is because there’s always fun cheeses by the deli area at the grocery store.
I always have BBQ leftovers in the freezer. If you don’t, a pound of bacon works too.
