Sep. 26—BRADENTON — Nearly 6,000 Manatee County homes have been affected by power outages as Hurricane Helene churns through the Gulf of Mexico.
As of Thursday afternoon, Florida Power and Light reported outages for 2,950 customers, with the number likely to increase as the powerful Category 3 storm continues to move north toward Florida’s Big Bend area.
Early Thursday afternoon, FPL reported outages for about 1,200 of its customers, but in a couple of hours that number rose above 3,000.
In total, FPL said about 5,300 of its nearly 215,000 Manatee County customers have been impacted so far, with power restored to around 1,600 customers.
Manatee County’s other electricity provider, Peace River Electric Cooperative, reported over 670 power outages Thursday afternoon.
