A Tennessee grand jury has charged a Kingsport couple with murder in the death of their 4-month-old baby earlier this month.
The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office said it was called to a home on September 15 for an infant not breathing, WCYB reported. The baby was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.
Lucas Carter Jr., 23, and Madison Rehart, 24, were both charged with aggravated assault on September 17 for failing to protect the child while deputies gathered evidence present the case to the grand jury.
That happened on Wednesday, with the grand jury handing up charges of first degree murder and aggravated child abuse/neglect/endangerment for both parents.
No further details about the case were released. Carter and Rehart are being held on $500,000 bonds.
