Robert F. Kennedy Jr. issued a warning about the state of American health and nutrition during a panel hosted by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI). Speaking on the topic of processed foods and government subsidies, Kennedy claimed that the U.S. is “mass poisoning” its children and adults through harmful policies.
“We are mass poisoning all of our children and all of our adults,” Kennedy said. He pointed out that 70% of food stamps are used to purchase processed foods, contributing to the nation’s growing health problems. He also highlighted the imbalance in subsidies, noting that “we give eight times as much subsidies to tobacco in this country than we do to fruits and vegetables.” According to Kennedy, these policies are inconsistent with promoting a healthy nation.
The panel, titled “American Health & Nutrition: A Second Opinion,” featured various witnesses discussing issues such as childhood obesity, processed food, and corruption within government agencies like the FDA. Kennedy argued that these agencies have become compromised by corporate interests, particularly Big Pharma, which he claims benefits from a system that prioritizes profit over health.
“The good news is that we can change all of this,” Kennedy said. “But it starts with taking a sledgehammer to corruption.” He expressed concern that regulatory agencies like the FDA, CDC, and USDA are no longer protecting Americans, but instead serve the interests of for-profit corporations.
Kennedy also criticized the National Institutes of Health (NIH), alleging that 80% of their grants go to scientists who later profit from royalties on the products they help develop. He emphasized the need for reform, calling the current system a betrayal of public health.
