On Wednesday, House Democrats voted to hold the Biden administration accountable for the fiasco that was the Afghanistan withdrawal.
When the measure was put on the floor, it passed with a 219-194 vote, with 10 Democrats crossing over.
This is not going to sit well with the White House.
Accountability
I had a feeling there would be some Democrats that would cross the line, but I did not see it being double digits here.
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) introduced the measure, citing numerous Biden officials, including Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
McCaul stated, “At every step, the administration prioritized the optics and politics of the withdrawal over the security of U.S. personnel and diplomats on the ground.
“Rather than admit their failure, this administration continues to this day to celebrate their deadly evacuation. Never once have they said, ‘I am sorry,’ to the Gold Star families.”
House Foreign Affairs Ranking Member Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) called the legislation a hit piece, stating, “This resolution, as I’ve said all along, is nothing more than political theater designed to score cheap points rather than address the real issues at hand.
“It’s a distortion of the facts and a disservice to the American people, a disservice to our servicemembers, a disservice to our diplomats – all of who put their lives on the line during our 20-year war efforts.
“Their sacrifices should not be used as a political football.
“We should be working on real solutions, supporting our Afghan allies, ensuring that we learn the right lessons, and providing accountability that are based on truth, not partisan narratives.”
That is a load of you-know-what.
The fact of the matter is that Biden had no real plan, blamed it all on Trump, and never held anyone accountable for the loss of 13 American lives, nor has he properly acknowledged the families of the fallen.
It’s great that this measure passed, but we are a long way from truly holding this administration accountable for the fiasco that took place during that withdrawal.
