Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has claimed that the militant organization Hezbollah is paying civilians in Lebanon to rent out “rocket launcher rooms” to their operatives.
Knewz.com has learned that the claim emerged amidst intensified violence between Israel and Hezbollah.
The former Prime Minister has voiced his claims on X, formerly known as Twitter, and explained that civilians are aiding the terrorist organization in their attacks against Israel.
He claimed that Hezbollah operatives are paying monthly rent to civilians in Lebanon for storing rocket launchers in some of their rooms.
The 13th Prime Minister of Israel wrote on social media, “Many Shiites in Lebanon have a unique revenue stream: In their home they have a special ‘Rocket Launcher Room.’”
“They’re paid monthly rent by Hezbollah to host this launcher and be prepared to shoot rockets at Israel communities on demand. I remember as a company commander fighting Hezbollah in Lebanon I was astonished by this.”
Bennett said in his post that the Israel Defense Forces are currently “systematically destroying these death machines.”
“Anyone man who turns his home into a death launch pad puts his family in severe danger, and ONLY he is responsible for the consequences. Enough is enough,” the former Prime Minister further stated.
His claims came as the hostility between Israel and Hezbollah reached new heights, with a massive airstrike rocking Lebanon on September 23. According to reports, former United States Defence Secretary Leon Panetta commented that the situation has “crossed a threshold.”
“We’re clearly walking into a much wider war. And that makes it much more difficult for any of the parties to agree to any kind of solution,” Panetta said in a statement.
“Obviously, the United States is going to continue to provide those supplies, as we have, because of our bond with Israel, but at the same time that it’s important to make clear that we cannot have an all-out war in the Middle East.”
“Right now, this is the wrong time or the wrong place and frankly, everybody is going to pay a price that I think will be devastating in terms of the future,” he added.
European Union’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell echoed Panett’s statement and said that the situation between Israel and Lebanon is close to a “full-fledged war.”
“If this is not a war situation, I don’t know what you would call it… This situation is extremely dangerous and worrying. I can say that we are almost in a full-fledged war,” he said in a statement.
“Everybody has to put all their capacity to stop this path to war.”
Israel launched a massive airstrike on Lebanon on Monday, September 23, leaving 492 people killed and around 1,600 injured. Of those killed in the attacks, 35 were children and 58 were women, according to the Ministry of Public Health of Lebanon.
The Israel Defense Forces reported that a total of 1,300 targets in southern Lebanon were struck in the attack.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed in a statement that his nation was changing “the security balance, the balance of power in the North.”
“For those who have not yet understood, I want to clarify Israel’s policy — we do not wait for a threat, we anticipate it… Everywhere, in every arena, at any time. We eliminate senior officials, eliminate terrorists, eliminate missiles — and our hands are bent,” he was quoted as saying.
“Whoever tries to hurt us, we hurt him even more.”
It has been reported that Israel launched a separate targeted strike on a residential building in Bir al-Abd, a southern suburb of Beirut – reportedly targeting Hezbollah senior commander Ali Karaki – which left six people injured.
However, it has been reported that the senior commander of the militant group survived the attack.
It has also been reported that Prime Minister Netanyahu sent out alerts to Lebanese civilians, asking them to evacuate their homes before the attack commenced.
With tensions rapidly rising in the Middle East, the U.S. has decided to deploy additional troops in the region. Pentagon press secretary Major General Pat Ryder said in a statement in this regard:
“In light of increased tension in the Middle East and out of an abundance of caution, we are sending a small number of additional U.S. military personnel forward to augment our forces that are already in the region.”
“But for operational security reasons, I’m not going to comment on or provide specifics,” Ryder added.
