President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice made a bizarre move to begin the week that has many concerned — and baffled — including former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr.
According to Fox News, Barr said he was “dumbfounded” after seeing the DOJ’s release of a letter written by would-be Trump assassin Ryan Wesley Routh, in which wrote that he would pay a bounty of $150,000 to anyone who could successfully assassinate the former president.
The Justice Department said it had received the letter from a witness who received it inside a box delivered to them several months prior to Routh’s arrest at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf club.
The DOJ was torched by many for publishing the chilling letter, as many argued that it could only serve to incite further violence against Trump and his family.
What’s happening?
Barr was one of the Justice Department’s critics regarding the decision to make the letter public, insisting that it served no purpose to do so.
In a statement to Fox News, Barr said, “I was dumbfounded that the DOJ made public this morning the contents of the letter that, Ryan Routh, left with an acquaintance prior to the attempted assassination of former President Trump.”
The DOJ released a letter written by Ryan Wesley Routh offering $150,000 to anyone who could ‘finish the job’ on President Trump.

Barr added, “The letter calls on people to ‘finish the job’ of killing President Trump, attempts to rouse people in incendiary terms to do so, and offers $150,000 to anyone who succeeds. There was no apparent justification for releasing this information at this stage.”
The former AG said that the “DOJ had more than enough evidence to have Routh detained pending trial, without publicizing these details.”
“Even if DOJ thought it important to provide the letter to the court, it could have redacted inflammatory material or arranged to have the letter submitted under seal. It was rash to put out this letter in the midst of an election during which two attempts on the life of President Trump had been made,” Barr’s statement continued.
Social media reacts
Barr wasn’t the only person furious about the DOJ publishing the letter. The letter sparked outrage across social media.
“The same owners of the Democrat party and 50 percent of the Republican party are the same ones behind this and the Crooks attempt. You don’t have to look far MTG, they work near you,” one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, “Because they want another attempt. We can’t get details on the first shooter. This is inciting violence against Trump. The doj is just as corrupt as the democrats.”
Heaven forbid there’s another attempt on Trump’s life. If that were to happen, the DOJ is in serious trouble.
