Donald Trump is facing several, criminal trials. Spurred on by partisan Democrats, these trials were conveniently timed to undermine his 2024 presidential campaign. Democrats have thrown all kinds of accusations against him: that he tried to overturn the 2020 election, that he started an insurrection, and that he illegally stole documents.
None of these hold a shred of evidence. But Democrats have weaponized the legal system in the hopes of burying Trump in endless trials and controversy.
But the former president is refusing to back down. The tide could be turning on all these phony criminal cases. One in particular could be moot, thanks to presidential immunity. A lower court shot down Trump’s objection. So, he’s taking it even higher.
2024 GOP frontrunner Donald Trump requested that the Supreme Court block a ruling from the US Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia stating that he does not have presidential immunity in the January 6 case against him.
According to the New York Times, the filing stated that “President Trump’s claim that presidents have absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for their official acts presents a novel, complex and momentous question that warrants careful consideration on appeal.”
The trial, which was set to begin on March 4 but has been put on hold through the appeals process, could now begin in the middle of the 2024 election campaign or even past the election, which takes place in less than 8 months. [Source: The Post Millennial]
Donald Trump has appealed to the Supreme Court over a lower court ruling on his presidential immunity. Trump has argued that the accusations against him cannot be prosecuted because as president he has immunity from criminal prosecution.
Presidents have long enjoyed a kind of immunity to certain rules imposed on regular citizens. The January 6 case relates to accusations of crimes while Trump was president. Democrats claim he tried to start an insurrection, blaming him for the actions of others at the Capitol.
Those accusations hold no water. But Trump believes he cannot even be prosecuted because he was president at the time. A lower court rejected this claim on bogus grounds. It stated that Trump can be prosecuted over things he did while president now because he is no longer president.
If that is allowed to go through, no future president is safe. The moment he leaves office, a rival party can prosecute him over anything. But this is the kind of lawless garbage Democrats are doing to stop Trump from returning to the White House.
It will be up to the Supreme Court is just un-American evil is allowed to stand.
