Katy Perry is leaving “American Idol.” She’s been a judge for seven years. On “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” she announced this season would be her last.
“I love ‘Idol’ so much,” Perry said. She wants to explore new things, hinting at future plans.
Her co-judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, were unaware of her decision. Perry hinted at an exciting year ahead for “popstar girlies.” She confirmed her departure on Instagram with a playful post.
Perry’s exit follows controversy, including accusations of “mom-shaming.” Bryan defended her, saying criticism is part of the job. They aim to judge fairly, despite the backlash.
After the 2023 season, contestant Oliver Steele addressed rumors about Perry. He defended her, denying claims she was a bully.
“I’ve seen a lot of rumors going around the internet about Katy Perry possibly leaving idol and I don’t necessarily know what’s true and what’s not. Here is what I know about [her]. Katy is not a bully, nor does she shame people,” he shared on his Instagram, along with photos of him and Perry.
