In response to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration’s recent decision, LGBT protestors lied down in protest while holding signs about death while they were protesting.
In accordance with Florida’s voice, Ron DeSantis has prohibited anyone from selecting their preferred gender while applying for a driver’s license, as The Daily Caller reported.
A large number of protesters voiced their displeasure with the Florida Senate for approving House Bill 1639, a new law that mandates drivers to include their biological sex on their driver’s license.
Die-in protests were organized on February 9 at numerous sites of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), and several demonstrators held signs that said things like “The DMV murdered me.”
Other protesters held signs with phrases like, “Ron DeSantis killed me,” and “hate kills.”
The protesters sought to represent Floridians who were verbally harassed, denied benefits or service, asked to leave or assaulted when showing an ID with a name or gender that did not match their gender presentation,” according to Watermark, a local LGBT site. The protesters wanted to represent those individuals.

An additional statement made by Robert Kynoch, the Deputy Director of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, was that the term “gender” had nothing to do with “a person’s internal sense of his or her gender role or identification,” as reported by Florida’s Voice.
“The term ‘gender’ […] does not refer to a person’s internal sense of his or her gender role or identification,” it said.
“[It] has historically and commonly been understood as a synonym for ‘sex,’ which is determined by innate and immutable biological and genetic characteristics.”
“Permitting an individual to alter his or her license to reflect an internal sense of gender role or identity, which is neither immutable nor objectively verifiable, undermines the purpose of an identification record,” Kynoch added in the letter.

As a result of the license’s “critical role in assisting public and private entities in correctly establishing the identity of a person presenting the license,” the letter stated that it is essential to maintain the classification of licensees in accordance with the unchangeable traits that they possess.
According to Bryan Griffin, who serves as the press secretary for the political team of Governor Ron DeSantis, the decision is “the right move.”
“Government should not affirm radical, anti-truth ideologies like ‘gender fluidity,’” Griffin said.
