Labour Party donor, Dale Vince, is the sole owner of Ecotricity. (The company is actually owned by Green Britain Group Ltd, whose only shareholder is Vince).
Ecotricity Group owns a number of subsidiaries, mostly wind and solar farms. In total they generated 151 GWh in 2022/23:
I believe that all of the wind farms are subsidised by ROCs, along with one of the three solar farms, Lodge Farm. The subsidised generation works out at 139 GWh.
Onshore wind gets 0.9 ROCs/MWh, and solar 1.6 ROCs. Based on current prices therefore, Ecotricity is being paid a subsidy of over £9 million a year. Most of Dale Vince’s wind farms have been operational for around ten years, and some a lot longer; Mablethorpe, for instance, started up in 2003.
It would be no exaggeration to say that Dale Vince has received more than £100 million in subsidies over the years.
I therefore have suggestion for him, seeing as how he is so desperate to save the planet – use that money to build some more wind farms, and sell all of their electricity for free.
