Additional details have been revealed regarding the death of Billy Miller, a soap opera star and three-time Daytime Emmy winner.
Miller died last Friday. He was best known for his roles on “The Young and the Restless” and “General Hospital,” at age 43.
RTM reported soap opera journalist Michael Fairman announced his death last Saturday evening.
On Tuesday, Miller’s mother, Patricia, revealed that Miller died by suicide; he suffered from bipolar depression for years.
Patricia released a statement to Soap Opera Digest to address rumors regarding her son’s death. “He fought a long hard valiant battle with bipolar depression for years,” wrote Patricia.
“He did everything he could to control the disease,” Patricia added. “He loved his family, his friends, and his fans but in the end, the disease won the fight and he surrendered his life.”
Acknowledging the circulation of rumors and misinformation, Patricia wrote: “The other causes of death being told are not true…I wish they were but they just aren’t.”
Grateful for the outpouring of support and kind tributes to her son, Patricia said ‘I want to personally thank the many fans & personal friends for the overwhelming amount of love, prayers & condolences sent to me and my family on the devastating death of my beautiful son BJ – Billy Miller,’ she said.
Patricia continued: “We all loved him so much and are desperately trying to deal with our loss. I will have nothing further to say. Thanks for the love and support.”
Many have expressed their support and fond memories of working with Miller in online posts.
The official account for “Young and Restless” posted: “The daytime community mourns the loss of Billy Miller who graced Y&R with his talent for many years as Billy Abbott. Our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones.”
Executive Producer of General Hospital Frank Valenti wrote: “I am devastated to hear news of the incredibly talented Billy Miller’s passing. On behalf of the entire [General Hospital] family, our hearts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
Co-star Octavia Spencer wrote on Instagram: “’I am speechless. I’m lying here scrolling through IG and came across a post that we lost Billy Miller. To his family, legions of fans, and our #TruthBeTold family my deepest condolences,”
RTM previously reported that Miller began his career in television on the popular soap opera “All My Children,” briefly playing Richie Novak but joined the cast of “The Young and the Restless” in 2008 as the fourth iteration of Billy Abbott. He departed the show in 2014.
During this time, he earned three Daytime Emmys, two for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and one for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
Miller joined the cast of “General Hospital” in 2014 and played Jason Morgan and Drew Cain. He was a series regular until 2019. He also had credits in “Suits,” the show fronted by actress turned royalty Meghan Markle, Showtime’s “Ray Donovan” and Apple TV+’s “Truth Be Told.”
