House Republicans will hold their first public hearing in the impeachment inquiry into President Biden Sept. 28, The Post has learned.
A spokesperson for the House Oversight Committee said Tuesday the hearing would focus on “constitutional and legal questions surrounding the president’s involvement in corruption and abuse of public office.”
Ahead of the hearing, the panel led by Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) plans to subpoena the bank records of first son Hunter Biden and first brother James Biden, whose overseas business interests are at the center of the impeachment inquiry announced by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) last week.
The spokesperson for the Committee released the following statement:
“The House Oversight Committee will hold its first hearing on the impeachment inquiry next Thursday, September 28. The hearing will focus on constitutional and legal questions surrounding the President’s involvement in corruption and abuse of public office. The Committee also intends to subpoena Hunter and James Biden’s personal and business bank records as early as this week. The Oversight Committee will continue to follow the evidence and money trail to provide the transparency and accountability that Americans demand from their government.”
The report explains that the subpoenas are intended to learn whether funds from countries such as China and Ukraine was funneled to Joe Biden.
The matter is expected to result in a lengthy legal battle over whether Congress has the right to the information.
Among the many documents and correspondence found on Hunter Biden’s laptop was the phrase, “10 percent for the ‘Big Guy,’” which reportedly referred to Joe Biden.
A paid FBI informant has stated that Joe and Hunter Biden were given $10 million in bribes from Ukrainian gas company Burisma in exchange for Joe Biden’s help in getting Prosecutor-General Viktor Shokin fired, even as Shoken was investigating the company.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy appointed Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-Ky.; House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio; and Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo. to lead the impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden.
