Los Angeles Police still are unsure what caused the death of the sister of a pop singer, Knewz.com has learned. But authorities consider it a homicide.
Maleesa Mooney was found dead in her downtown apartment building Tuesday afternoon, September 12. She had lived there less than a month.
Mooney was a real estate agent and art dealer, with dreams of a modeling career.
Her younger sister, Jourdin Pauline, has become a singing star in South America, even though they grew up together in Los Angeles.
”My heart is crushed,” Pauline wrote in an Instagram photo tribute Thursday, September 14. “Never in a million years did I think I’d have to make this post and get justice for my one and only sister.”

Pauline called Mooney “the one who taught me everything I know” and “the best chef ever.” She revealed Mooney would have turned 32 in October.
Pauline urged supporters to gather near Mooney’s apartment building in Los Angeles Sunday evening, September 17 wearing pink for a memorial ceremony.
It turns out a second model was found dead in downtown Los Angeles two days earlier.
The Los Angeles Times reports Nichole Coats, 32, was found dead September 10. Authorities say they’re not investigating the death as a homicide, but Coats’s relatives are skeptical.
“I believe it was murder,” aunt May Stevens said. “One of her legs was up in the air in a kicking position. That’s not somebody who just laid in their bed and died.”
Coats’s mother added that the scene of her death was bloody.

A GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Coats’s funeral expenses has raised more than $12,500.
Through Saturday, September 9, Los Angeles Police counted 219 homicides so far this year. That number is down 24% from last year.

According to the International Business Times, Mooney’s family feared trouble when an iPhone text exchange with her changed from blue to green. That normally indicates a shift in her WiFi source – in this case, perhaps due to theft.
“They’re trying to sell her iPhone and her MacBook,” Pauline claimed in an interview monitored by The Messenger.
Mooney may have been dead for several days before officers found her, based on a comment from her cousin.
“Her messages weren’t delivering and we knew something was up because we all have a special relationship with Maleesa,” Bailey Babb said.
People in Mooney’s building reportedly had complained for weeks about some kind of suspicious actions.
Pauline, 24, calls herself a “Guyanese pop princess”, as she and her sister were born in Guyana. KTTV noted her family moved to the U.S. when she was 6.
Pauline has built 1.3 million followers as an influencer on Instagram and is promoting an upcoming album called Naked.
