The bloom has come off the rose for Vice President Kamala Harris with a new poll showing collapsing enthusiasm among Democrats over her being on the 2024 ticket as President Joe Biden’s running mate, a major blow to a politician who was once seen as a rising star.
With two recent polls from major media outlets showing deep dissatisfaction with Biden, his unpopular veep is unlikely to energize voters the way that a more dynamic pick would but the party has cast its lot with her in order to appeal to a certain core demographic group and is unable to make a change despite warning signs in another just-released poll.
According to the numbers from the CBS/YouGov poll, a mere 30 percent of Democratic registered voters are “enthusiastic” about Harris as the running mate for Biden, a plunge of nearly half from the 58 percent who were excited over her inclusion on the 2020 ticket.
Additionally, the number of Democratic registered voters who are “Dissatisfied/Angry” about Harris being on the ticket has doubled from the last election cycle with 16 percent now very unhappy about the vice president who has had ample time to prove that she was worthy of the job but has failed to live up to expectations.
CBS News states that she retains her sway with black Democrats who are “most enthusiastic about Harris today, as they were three years ago” when Biden tabbed her as a sop to the vitally important voter bloc that is the key to keeping the party’s politicians in power.
Vice President Harris still enjoys overwhelming approval numbers within her own party but is far less popular with the country as a whole.

In another number that is reflective of Harris’ lack of accomplishments during her time as vice president, nearly half of Democrats responded that they have heard “Not much/nothing at all” about her work as vice president.
Harris cheerleaders could pluck some optimism out of the ugly poll numbers in that 54 percent of Democratic registered voters say that they are “satisfied” with her pick as Biden’s running mate – up 20 points from 2020 – but that’s just putting lipstick on the proverbial pig of the inability of Harris to seize the momentum of her historic election as the first woman of color to the vice presidency to propel herself to bigger and better things.
The optics of the weekend probably aren’t much help for the veep either. With Biden on an overseas trip to attend the G20 summit and Harris left at home to mind the shop, she was ridiculed over dancing at a star-studded party to mark the 50th anniversary of hip-hop at the vice president’s official residence.

Harris’ unpopularity at a time when Biden is showing increasing signs of cognitive problems associated with old age is an opening for the GOP to seize on her declining career trajectory to make their case that it would only be a matter of time until she replaces him if they are reelected.
