On Friday, Ohio police released bodycam footage that captured a phone conversation between a detective and a suspect believed to be the scammer behind a tragic Uber driver shooting .
William Brock, 81, of South Charleston, Ohio, allegedly shot and killed Uber driver Loletha Hall, 61, on March 25. Brock mistakenly believed Hall was part of a scam ring that had been trying to extort him, according to the Clark County prosecutor.
Authorities said Hall was also a victim of the scammers who dispatched her to Brock’s home through the Uber app to pick up a package. Brock told police that he thought Hall was involved with the scammers who repeatedly called him earlier that morning, demanding he pay them $12,000.
