Special Counsel Jack Smith concluded his investigation into previous President Donald Trump’s mishandling of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.
The investigation, which began in 2015 and had “essentially every staff member” at Mar-a-Lago interviewed, came to a head after Trump was served a subpoena in May 2020 in connection to documents he had taken from the White House.
A consequence of this action was the disgraced FBI executing a search warrant at the Mar-a-Lago premises where they found numerous classified files. As a result, Corcoran, one of Trump’s legal staffers, was pulled into a closed-door hearing.
Corcoran, as it turns out, is an impeccable note-taker and indicated that Trump among other things asked if they – his legal team – might push back against the Justice Department regarding their requests for the documents.

According to The Guardian and Fake News CNN, Trump ran the risk of exposing himself further during live televised appearances this month, where he validated that he knowingly “took the documents” and claimed they became “instantly declassified” when he took them.
Now, the National Archives has provided the special counsel with 16 files verifying that Trump and his top consultants were fully aware of the “whether, why and how” he could declassify documents that are likely to prospectively destructive evidence to the defense.

Former Attorney General Bill Barr, known for criticizing Bragg’s handling of the “Hush Money” case, remarked that Trump could be “very exposed” in the Mar-a-Lago proceedings.
Ty Cobb, a former White House lawyer was also reported commenting on the case saying it was likely to result in the former president’s imprisonment.
While Trump’s Manhattan indictment has triggered a rise in fundraising and support from his allies – including those who are running against him in the election – it is yet to be seen how the Mar-a-Lago debacle will affect his campaign, per AXIOS.

As of now, no criminal charges have been formally brought against Trump in the Mar-a-Lago case.
