According to the lawyer representing the prime suspect in Natalie Holloway’s disappearance, Joran van der Sloot is divorcing his wife and mother of his daughter, DailyMail reports.
Joran van der Sloot’s lawyer reportedly said that not only is van der Sloot in the process of divorcing his wife and mother of his daughter, but he chose a “prettier and younger” girlfriend as the replacement.
Van der Sloot married Leidy Figueroa, 33, at Piedras Gordas prison in July 2014, while she was pregnant with their child. In 2020, the romantic relationship started deteriorating when van der Sloot faced allegations of smuggling drugs into jail with his current girlfriend, Eva Pacohuanaco, Altez said.
“Leidy continued seeing him for a while,” Altez said. “Joran had a bunch of girlfriends…lots of girls used to visit him…but Leidy was the most loyal.”
Due to heightened security, van der Sloot receives fewer female visitors at his current prison in Puno, Peru. However, according to Altez, he still talks to females through letter-writing, and they send him pictures.
Altez added that Leidy still visits Van der Sloot and is reportedly financially supported by him through family funds.
Meanwhile, van der Sloot is fighting extradition to the U.S., where “accused of extortion and wire fraud” in the Northern District of Alabama, Fox News reports.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, the extradition stems from claims that van der Sloot bilked Holloway’s mother, Beth, out of $25,100.
Beth paid van der Sloot in 2010 for details about the location of her daughter’s remains, who disappeared in 2005 while on vacation with friends in Aruba.
Investigators said van der Sloot gave false information and failed to honor his promise, which led to a U.S. grand jury indicting him. He has yet to face prosecution on the allegations.
A lawyer for van der Sloot said that he will appeal the extradition. He remains in a Peruvian prison, serving a 28-year sentence for murdering 21-year-old Stephany Flores in a Lima hotel room.
Although he’s considered a prime suspect in Natalee Holloway’s disappearance, van der Sloot has not been charged with her murder and her remains have not been found.
