The country is dealing with another crisis overseas that has Americans in harm’s way.
The federal government was caught flat-footed responding to the upheaval in Haiti.
And Ron DeSantis put Joe Biden to shame with this plan to help Americans stranded in Haiti.
The political upheaval and growing violence in Haiti have the Caribbean nation on the brink of a civil war.
Warring gangs are battling for control of the country and have captured more than 80% of the capital of Port-au-Prince.
Both of the country’s international airports are shut down, and the Dominican Republic closed its borders to Haiti leaving Americans trapped in the country.
Joe Biden leaves Americans behind once again
This is the third instance where President Joe Biden has left Americans stranded in a war-torn country after the disastrous 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal and the October 7 terrorist attack by Hamas in Israel.
The State Department told Americans stuck in Haiti to sign up for a notification system and wait to be alerted.
American missionaries and aid workers in the country told the New York Post the U.S. Embassy in Haiti and the State Department have not been helpful.
Jill Dolan, who helps run an orphanage for Haitians, told the paper that the Embassy simply told her to “be safe” when she asked for help.
Representative Cory Mills (R-FL), a decorated combat veteran with the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, financed a private rescue mission to retrieve 10 Americans in Haiti.
“There’s a clear pattern of abandonment,” Mills said. “Yet again, this group was left behind by Biden and his State Department after requesting their help in-country.”
He previously rescued Americans left behind in the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The Biden administration has failed to rescue and help Americans left behind in Haiti.
Florida takes action to help residents stranded in Haiti
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis ordered his administration to create a portal to help Floridians and other Americans who are stranded in Haiti.
Florida’s Division of Emergency Management created an online portal for them to ask for help and assistance as the situation in Haiti continues to deteriorate.
Floridians can provide the state with their name, location, passport information, details on their traveling party, and other information.
“We will do everything possible to help Floridians and Americans who are in need of help in Haiti,” Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie said. “I encourage those with needs to visit the portal today.”
The announcement comes after DeSantis ordered members of the Florida National Guard, State Guard, and law enforcement to the Florida Keys to defend against a potential influx of illegal aliens from Haiti.
Florida is stepping up to help Americans and secure its border while the Biden administration is missing in action once again.
