A Colorado woman known on social media as the “J6 Praying Grandma” was convicted of four federal misdemeanor counts last week in connection to the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol and could face up to a year in prison.
Rebecca Lavrenz, a 71-year-old great-grandmother who reportedly operates a bed and breakfast outside of Colorado Springs, was convicted by a 12-member jury in Washington, D.C., on Thursday of entering and remaining in a restricted building, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol, The Gazette reported. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 12, and Lavrenz reportedly could face up to a year in prison and fines of more than $200,000, excluding legal fees.
The woman told the Gazette that though she was “surprised” about the verdict, “I believe God wanted it to turn out this way so my voice could be amplified. We have to wake up our country.”
“The whole reason I went to the Capitol was to pray,” Lavrenz explained in the interview. “I didn’t get into this for myself, I was there to stand up for my country. God led me to go there and into the building to stand up for my First Amendment rights to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
The Colorado Sun reported:
Lavrenz was arrested Dec. 19, 2022, in Denver after tipsters alerted the FBI she was part of the crowd that breached the Capitol. In an interview with federal authorities, Lavrenz said she spent 10 minutes inside the Capitol, according to court documents.
Lavrenz isn’t being accused of damaging anything or hurting anyone. Fox 21 News shared the following details:
According to the documents provided by the FBI, agents conducted a consensual interview with Lavrenz on April 26, 2021, when she recounted traveling to Washington D.C. to attend the rally on the mall and followed the crowd to the U.S. Capitol building. As she approached the building from the east, she observed physical barriers indicating that the Capitol building grounds were a restricted area.
In the interview, Lavrenz informed the FBI that as the crowd grew, she observed people getting into physical confrontations with the police, pushing on the barriers as the police pushed back, and a woman getting injured in the exchange. When the crowd eventually pushed past the barriers, Larenz followed into the entrance of the Capitol.
Larenz stated that she spent approximately ten minutes inside the Capitol, describing her path as “roaming from the East center entrance to the Rotunda and back, exiting through the same door she entered.”
But Biden’s Justice Department is going after her, simply because she entered the Capitol building.
On Thursday, while back in Washington, D.C. on the day of her conviction, Lavrenz shared a video as she wept in disbelief.
“In tears as I drive by the Capitol for the first time since January 2021. My own country is treating me like a criminal. I’m here because I love my country. America is worth saving and I won’t give up.#j6trial #j6prayingrandma,” she wrote.

Saturday evening, Lavrenz wrote: “I am still in utter disbelief by Thursday’s verdict. Never in my life did I imagine my own government would charge me as a criminal for exercising my religious liberties and rights to free speech, which are guaranteed by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
“They are trying to stop our voices, put fear in our hearts and take away the inalienable rights given to us by God. But I will not let that happen to this praying great-grandma as long as I have breath. #j6prayingrandma,” she added.

A GiveSendGo account set up to help with Lavrenz’s legal expenses has raised over $64,000 so far.
Former President Donald Trump voiced his fury in a post on his Truth Social account. He wrote:
Rebecca Lavrez, also known as the “J6 Praying Grandma,” has been unfairly targeted by Crooked Joe Biden’s DOJ, and now faces up to 1 YEAR in prison for peacefully walking around the Capitol, and praying for our Failing Nation on January 6th!
Rebecca is a 72-year-old Grandmother and Small Business Owner from Colorado, and now she is one of Joe Biden’s J6 HOSTAGES!!! Crooked Joe Biden spends more time prosecuting Patriots like Rebecca, AND ME, than Violent Criminals, Thugs, Murderers, and ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS who are destroying our Country. THIS IS WHAT WE ARE UP AGAINST. MAGA2024!
John Guandolo, a former Combat Vet Marine and former FBI Special Agent, wrote, “This amazing God-fearing woman was convicted for 4 federal misdemeanor charges related to J6 last evening. This is a travesty of justice. I was honored to testify in this case on and shed truth and unto this dark scheme of federal prosecutors and their taskmasters.”

Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy also reacted in outrage, writing, “What the hell is happening in America???!!! Illegals who broke into our country aren’t in prison. Joe & Hunter Biden sold the country out to China. They aren’t in prison. BLM protesters who torched our cities didn’t go to prison. But a grandma who prayed in our Capitol on January 6 gets one year in prison!!! This is too much. Is there not ONE Democrat who will say this is wrong?!”

Trump advisor Stephen Miller warned, “A DC jury and DC judge will convict any Republican of anything at anytime. A Democrat prosecutor has unlimited, unchecked power to jail the political opposition.”
