Speaker Emeritus Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is now in the private sector, but I do not believe that will last very long.
I tagged McCarthy as Trump’s Chief of Staff a long time ago if Trump wins the election.
It would appear that McCarthy is starting his duties early, openly advising Trump on how to pick his VP.
The Apprentice
McCarthy believes that Trump will use his approach from “The Apprentice” to pick his VP, but McCarthy showed his true colors in the process.
Now, those of you who read CJR regularly know that I do not like or support McCarthy.
He is deeply embedded in the establishment, and he just proved it again.
At the top of McCarthy’s wish list for Trump’s VP is Nikki Haley.
I will admit that I once supported Hailey, but as her platform shaped up, she lost me for good, but not McCarthy.
He stated, “This is what I think Trump’s gonna do. He’s gonna play ‘Apprentice.’”
He explained, “Nikki Haley would rise to the top. She got what, a third of the vote?”
McCarthy then stated that if Trump chose Haley, the election would be “over.” But he seemed to forget how many moderates and conservatives on the fence Haley were upset with her platform, not to mention the fact that MAGA hates her.
He then added, “I think Tim Scott would be a remarkable choice,” a point I agree with McCarthy on.
He then concluded, “If I was to advise him, I’d look to Tim and Nicky if you want to win.
“If you want to pick someone that’s not going to argue with you, there’s a lot of people to pick. If you want to pick somebody that is just like you, that’s really not adding to the ticket.”
There is only one choice in my opinion, and that is Scott. He is a clear moderate, which will appease the concerns of moderates who are on the fence have about Trump.
He is one of the few names in the hat that would give me confidence going in regarding the VP’s ability to step up and sit behind the Resolute Desk if something were to happen to Trump. Scott would also bring a massive amount of minority votes to Trump, something he needs to offset the DeSantis supporters who will never vote for Trump after the attacks made during the primary.
Before Trump announced, my dream ticket was DeSantis-Scott, and since DeSantis is no longer in the picture, I still believe Scott is the best choice as VP.
