Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R) announced that he has no plans to run for President in 2024.
Kemp intends to stay out of the brewing fight for the Republican nomination and is going to let the dust settle before endorsing a candidate in the primary.
Kemp confirmed his decision in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, ending swirling speculation that the Georgia Republican intended to become the 47th POTUS.
The Republican field is already being dominated by former President Donald Trump and there could be as many as ten candidates running in 2024.
Kemp’s profile with Republican voters isn’t ideal thanks to a feud with Trump that may have doomed any chances of a presidential run.
Kemp and Trump have feuded ever since Kemp opened Georgia during the pandemic ahead of Trump’s timetable.
Later on, Trump blasted Kemp for not backing his allegations of voter fraud that Trump claims cost him Georgia’s electoral votes in the 2020 election.
Regardless of who was right, Kemp is already at a disadvantage when it comes to appealing to Trump’s voter base.
Trump’s voter base will be the deciding factor in who wins the nomination and right now, only one candidate has a realistic chance of doing that.
Trump v. DeSantis
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has yet to officially declare for 2024 and the race is already shaping up to be a showdown between him and Trump.
Other Republicans like Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy have little chance unless something drastic changes.
The real question when it comes to Brian Kemp is whether he will endorse Donald Trump, or get revenge and side with DeSantis.
Kemp’s endorsement will be important as Georgia is key to any Republican hoping to win in the general election.
