Costco is tightening the rules on who can use its food courts. This comes after a period of leniency at several locations.
Starting April 8, the retail giant is enforcing new restrictions. Only certain customers will have access to its affordable, ready-to-eat meals.
The change affects a few Costco stores with outdoor food courts. Previously, anyone could order food, regardless of their membership status.
Signs announcing these changes appeared at some Costcos earlier in the month. Customers began noticing them in front of the food courts.
A Reddit user posted a photo of one sign. It had a clear message for non-members.
“You can join today. Please see our membership counter for details.”
Membership at Costco costs $60 a year. It grants access to all of the chain’s worldwide locations.
Costco’s CFO, Richard Galanti, explained the crackdown in March. He mentioned overcrowding at the food courts as a significant issue.
