Microsoft tech guru Bill Gates made his fortune by investing in improving computer technology to its fullest potential, now the tech billionaire is worrying that advancements in AI may pose a serious threat to human life.
Gates said he was excited by the potential boost AI could provide to education, healthcare, business and lifestyles across the planet – but in recent months the former CEO of Microsoft had been contemplating the potential danger artificial intelligence could pose if it fell into the wrong hands.
Gates said, “Like most inventions, artificial intelligence can be used for good purposes or malign ones.”
“Governments need to work with the private sector on ways to limit the risks.”
He claims that not only could a real life “Bond villain” use it to manipulate world powers, but that the AI itself could “run out of control” deciding that “humans are a threat” and one that could easily be taken care of.

Gates claims that super-intelligent AIs will be developed that will think so quickly human brains will “operate at a snail’s pace” by comparison.
“It will be able to do everything that a human brain can but without any practical limits on the size of its memory or the speed at which it operates.”
“This will be a profound change,” Gates continued. “These ‘strong’ AIs, as they’re known, will probably be able to establish their own goals.”
The 67-year-old goes on to describe possible scenarios not too dissimilar to that of James Cameron’s Terminator franchise.

Cameron also spoke out against AI claiming that robots may already be controlling us without us even knowing it.
Gates does feel lucky to have been involved in the evolution of the online world and the “internet revolution,” but at the same time, claims that “the world needs to establish the rules of the road so that any downsides of artificial intelligence are far outweighed by its benefits.”
“So that everyone can enjoy those benefits no matter where they live or how much money they have.”
