A 35-year-old man was seen dangling from the 31st story of a New York CitySpire condo after the FBI tried to serve him a warrant of arrest.
It has come to light that the man was Ian Mitchel. This fellow was apparently about to be arrested for conning $99,000 from his unsuspecting victims so that he could invest it in a fictitious New York City bar.
It is believed that this is not his first such offense. According to the New York Post, the man was arrested in 2015 for duping numerous entities out of “hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
In his latest transgression, he is believed to have passed himself off as Ian Matalon, heir to a wealthy Jamaican businessman named Joseph Matalon.

Mitchel, in his fake persona, is believed to have scammed a US military veteran out of nearly $15,000 and a businessman out of $158,000.
Additionally, he preyed on businessman Humberto Romero, who was allegedly led to believe that he was investing in a profitable hedge fund. Romero blew the whistle on the con artist when he tried to withdraw funds from the “investment” and Mitchel went incommunicado.
According to Romero, Mitchel was glib. “Ian discussed many times when we were together that he had clients that invested in the millions,” wrote the businessman, who was now $158,000 shy, in an affidavit.

The FBI allegedly tried to serve the warrant of arrest at an apartment in the luxury CitySpire building on the corner of 150 West and 56th streets when Mitchel smashed the glass out of a window and sat on its ledge with his feet hanging outside.
The local authorities reacted by placing a large cushion in the street below in the event that he actually decided to jump.

The Daily Mail reported that Mitchel left the window at around 13h00, after about four hours, presumably succumbing to the authorities and leaving the building using the conventional route instead of jumping.
