A new letter from 2018, first obtained by The Daily Mail, shows former Trump attorney Michael Cohen lying to federal election officials, claiming he was not reimbursed by Donald Trump or his organization for the $130,000 hush payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. The letter directly contradicts Cohen’s sworn testimony to Congress given a year later.
In the letter, Cohen told the Federal Election Commission that he “used his own personal funds to facilitate a payment of $130,000 to Ms. Stephanie Clifford,” in 2016. Stephanie Clifford is the legal name of Stormy Daniels.
“Neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford, and neither reimbursed Mr. Cohen for the payment directly or indirectly,” Cohen the letter says.
Cohen later changed his story, and told a congressional hearing that the Trump did, in fact, reimburse him for the payment.
