From Rightwingnewshour.com:
The police had warrants out for accused killer Geoffry Mwangi but weren’t looking real hard for him. It was his gig selling stolen Tide detergent at the swap meet which got him busted. Now that California has decriminalized retail theft in amounts under $950, he turned shoplifting into a cottage industry.
Killer detergent deals
If you want a killer deal on detergent, Geoffry Mwangi will hook you up. At least he could before he got snagged and held on a murder rap. San Bernardino County charged him with the killing of 16-year-old Ulysses Solis on November 18, 2019.
He’s been wandering around free as a bird while the police forgot all about the murder. The only reason he’s behind bars is because an alert officer of the La Verne police spotted him wheeling a cartload of Tide from Vons with “the store manager following.”
Police couldn’t actually arrest him for the shoplifting unless he boosted more than $950 worth but they could run him for warrants. They did and hit paydirt, learning the 22-year-old urban entrepreneur was a fugitive accused killer.
His ID came back tied to the shooting murder of Solis, who had been assassinated while “sitting inside a Nissan Altima.” His 21-year-old brother Fabian Solis “had also been struck by gunfire and was taken to a hospital.”
Police didn’t have a clue as to who the killer was. They’re also defunded to the point they can’t even buy a vowel. That’s why “there were no arrests or suspects identified immediately following the shooting.”
The file remained buried in a drawer until this past July. When the Cold Case Homicide Team finally got it in their inbox, they went out and actually did some investigating.
Newly discovered evidence
Once police actually went looking for evidence in the homicide, they were stunned to find some. It implicated not one killer but three, working in tandem.
Along with Geoffry Mwangi, they pointed the finger at “Twann Clintrass Smith, 22, and Keyon Tillman-Lakey, 23, as suspects.” By September, all three had arrest warrants out. All three are known residents of Fontana.
Police caught up with Smith first, on October 22. A mere five days later, Tillman-Lakey was rounded up. Unsurprisingly, both “were booked on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.”
The third killer remained on the loose until he tried to restock his flea market space on November 7. He’s now being held in Rancho Cucamonga until he raises $1 million bail.
The accused killer admitted he stole the detergent, telling police he sells stolen Tide at swap meets. He knows how many bottles to put in the cart without passing the magic line which makes it an actual crime which can be prosecuted.
Tide is the most liquid currency on the black market today. That particular brand “is a popular item to steal because it is considered a high-quality detergent and can be traded for drugs or other items.” There aren’t any serial numbers to trace either.
